Slow tourism is a form of alternative tourism that advocates for the experience of tourists, slowing down the pace, preserving the environment and increasing the quality of the tourist experience by connecting tourists with the destination. The paper provides an overview of the literature on slow tourism, and based on that, the characteristics, attributes and dimensions of this type of tourism are defined. The natural and social characteristics of the researched area are presented, and the current state and model of tourism management in the region of Western Serbia are described. In the methodological part of the paper, the instruments, procedure and sample of the research are presented, and the hypotheses of the work are also set. The hypotheses related to the first part of the research are related to the attitudes of the local population, while the hypotheses related to the second part of the research are related to the attitudes of a certain number of representatives of the tourism offer of Western Serbia. Through the results and discussion, the hypotheses were confirmed, partially confirmed or refuted, with the help of statistical calculations and other verification methods, while the conclusion of the paper presented the scientific and practical contribution of theoretical and field research, as well as the limitations of the research. In this part of the paper, suggestions and ideas for future research are listed. Also, practical tips are listed that aim to suggest and motivate the initiation of changes that can lead to the progress of tourism development and the quality of the tourist offer in Western Serbia, which will be based on the basics of slow tourism and examples of good practice from abroad.
