In this dissertation the ways of presenting encyclopedic knowledge in mega-, macro- and microstructure of dictionaries are examined. The research is based on the material of three dictionaries: Lithuanian–French by Danguolė Melnikienė (2020), Lithuanian–Russian by Antanas Lyberis (2015) and The Great Lithuanian–English by Bronius Piesarskas (2006). The analysis is completed by combining qualitative and quantitative research methods. The empirical research is supplemented by a survey with the aim to ascertain what type of encyclopedic knowledge is used by respondents and how to present it. The results of the study show that the presentation of encyclopedic knowledge in the structural levels of the analyzed dictionaries differs in scope and presentation methods. The encyclopedic information is presented most comprehensively in microstructure level by labels of usage, definitions, Latin names, meaning specifications and illustrative examples but not in the same detail in all dictionaries. In the megastructure the information about the included encyclopedic knowledge can be found in the preface, encyclopedic knowledge is presented in abbreviations, in the appendices and is partially reflected in the lists of lexicographic sources. In the macrostructure level the encyclopedic knowledge can be inferred from the dictionary word-list and the principles of its arrangement. Based on the results of Lithuanian and English questionnaires it can be ascertained that encyclopedic knowledge in bilingual dictionaries is required by the users, however its necessity and usability differ.
