Abstract:
Physical inactivity is considered a promising intervention target to delay or prevent the development of accelerated cognitive decline and dementia. The main objective of this thesis was to investigate causality in the relation between physical activity and cognitive vitality. In addition, the potential moderating role of genetic susceptibility to Alzheimer’s disease, based on the APOE gene and the predicitve validity of neurotrophic factors IGF-I and BDNF is investigated.
