The main aim of this thesis is to investigate the capacity of GM3 containing liposomes to specifically target antigen to CD169+ macrophages and to elicit CD8+ T cell immunity in order to evaluate its potential as a viable cancer nanovaccine platform. In addition to this work, we have also exploited other gangliosides, multiple CD169-expressing APCs, systemic and targeted adjuvants, antibody-mediated targeting and different routes of immunization (in the context of antibody targeting) and have provided evidence for successful alliance between cDC1 and CD169+ macrophages in induction of robust CD8+ T cell responses.
