Abstract:

Economic corridors are a phenomenon of complex nature aiming to solve the problem of territorial inequality. The introduction of the “One belt, one road” initiative has led to a new wave of studies investigating the relationship between economic corridors and logistics performance, where scientists agree that the development of economic corridors is closely related to the changes in countries’ logistics performance. However, the question of whether the relationship between economic corridors and logistics performance depends on different factors was investigated very scarcely in the literature. Moreover, the empirical evidence of the moderating role of institutional quality in the economic corridors – logistics performance nexus is insufficient as in existing literature this aspect is analysed only theoretically. Therefore, this thesis, while exploring the complex nature of the economic corridors phenomenon, has aimed to fill this gap by providing new insights into analysing the impact of economic corridors on countries’ logistics performance via institutional effect. The empirical results point to the fact that better institutions in the country, ease the development of economic corridors in favor of the quality of logistics services. The impact of economic corridors on countries’ logistics performance is ambiguous. The meaningful marginal effect of the impact of economic corridors varies depending on the political culture of public governance in a particular country, which determines the effectiveness of institutional quality.
