Quantum Field Theory Simulation using Digital Quantum Computers

The thesis was published by WADHIA, VIVEK, in January 2021, Durham University.

Abstract:

Quantum field theory (QFT) forms the fundamental basis of many areas in physics and is indispensable for our understanding of the universe. However, there are many different quantum field theories, and the equations associated with each of these are difficult to solve and understand analytically. In recent years, quantum computing has come to the forefront of developments in physics and there is much excitement about potential applications for this new technology. This work seeks to ascertain if it is possible to simulate quantum field theories on this current generation of quantum computers. Specifically, using quantum walks as an algorithmic implementation, simulated on superconducting quantum computers provided by IBM, using
the qiskit software package.
