Abstract:

Through the integration into the global economics the migration process appears as relevant as well as the consequences related to it. It is noticed that migration determined by globalization is a natural process; however its large scope leads to the negative consequences. When people with the different qualification emigrate, there is a loss of customers, employers, investors, who spend their earned money in the destination countries; therefore the GDP is not created in the country of origin. Furthermore, the country loses economic, scientific, technical, innovative potential. Over the last decade mass emigration has been recorded in Lithuania, which made an annual average of more than 30 thousand people and the highest net migration for 1000 inhabitants comparing with the other EU countries. These considerations led to the fact that emigration has become one of the most important and controversial recent economic and political discussion object, what stimulates the growing interest of different researchers. Systematic analysis of theories dealing with impact of migration on national economic growth was performed in the thesis. Summary of scientific studies on impact of migration on national economic growth considering their methodological aspects, advantages and disadvantages was presented. Model for assessment emigrants’ qualification structure impact on the national economic growth was substantiated. Evaluation of migration tendencies and migration structure in EU countries and Lithuania was carried out. The model for assessment was adapted to the case of Lithuania assessing emigrants’ qualification structure impact on the nation economic growth over the aggregated expenditure components. According to the calculations it is seen that emigration decreases the growth of aggregated expenditure components. It was estimated that when the qualified emigrants’ structure increased, the higher negative emigration impact appeared comparing it to the unqualified emigration case.
